Phoenix man dies when car crashes into 2 trucks in Scottsdale
A suspected drunken driver died early Wednesday morning in Scottsdale after the car he was driving crashed into two trucks, police said.Scottsdale police responded to a multiple-vehicle crash just before midnight Tuesday near Thomas Road and 84th Street.
Alexander Schnopp of Phoenix was traveling westbound on Thomas and swerved into the eastbound lanes, striking a Ford pickup, Scottsdale police said. The Chrysler continued forward and struck the front of a large truck, police said. Schnopp was extricated from his vehicle and taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn where he died, police said."At this point the collision is still under investigation; however, it does appear that alcohol may be a factor," a police spokesman said.The intersection of Thomas and 84th was closed for about four hours.

Car crashes into motorcycle officer on traffic stop
One person has been taken into custody after an officer-involved crash in Scottsdale that shut down part of Loop 101 for five hours early Saturday morning.Around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, a motorcycle officer from the Salt River Police Department was making a traffic stop on the southbound portion of Loop 101 near Thomas Road, said Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Robert Bailey.
As the officer approached the stopped vehicle, another car - driven by 21-year-old Nicole Moon, of Mesa - crashed into them, running over the officer, Bailey said.The officer sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.Neither Moon nor the driver of the stopped vehicle was injured.Moon was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault in connection with a DUI, Bailey said."The officers have probable cause to suspect Ms. Moon was under the influence of substances other than alcohol," Bailey said.DPS is conducted a crash investigation as well as criminal investigation.The southbound portion of Loop 101 at Thomas Road was closed until approximately 6:30 a.m., DPS said.
